PUSCII is...
- PUSCII is the Progressive Utrecht Subversive Centre for Information Interchange
- PUSCII is an internet workplace where people can use computers for free: e-mailing, writing documents, burning cds, making leaflets, printing, networking, learning tech-stuff, etc. Here information is free and accessible for everyone as unfortunately not everyone has the money to afford expensive equipment or a fast internet connection. Some of those internet providers that offer cheap access even invade your privacy by selling your internet habits to third parties.
- PUSCII is a framework for communication, presentations, technical support, spreading free & open-source software and subverting the technology that dominates our lives.
- PUSCII recycles computers: turning that old computer into an activist terminal. Hardware recycling is one of the projects we share with our co-inhabitants, the freeshop. So don't expect any hi-tech stuff: needing the latest state-of-the-art hardware to surf the web or to write your documents is nonsense. Most of the hardware we use is donated, bought second hand, or found in the trash and brought back to "life".
- PUSCII is a collective of volunteers operating out of a squatted building using, spreading and promoting free and open source software, opening the doors of subversive information to everybody. We don't pay software licensing fees to the likes of proprietary corporations such as Microsoft (we are a Microsoft-free environment) and most of our machines run Linux or BSD operating systems, which are free, stable and more secure because they're open source.
- PUSCII strives to prevent censorship and commercialization of one of the only remaining outlets of free speech, the internet. To counter the alarming commercialization of the internet, we pour healthy doses of non-censored, non-commercial subversive information into the net. We promote hacktivism and all groups that share this philosophy with us.
- PUSCII offers webhosting, mailing lists and personal email for those who share that philosophy. Come and talk about it...
If you want to learn more about free and open source software, or hardware recycling, or just about other things that we do and can do, then just drop by when we are open. The infrastructure is here and the possibilities are limitless. Volunteers and donations are always welcome, especially your old unused hardware.
